Re: Guam Data Submission - Status Report 3/07/12

Hi Team -

Ok, I finished the round of town halls/focus groups with GCC this morning.  We had 5 separate meetings over 4 days and there's a lot of feedback regarding the speed test.

I conducted the meetings in computer equipped classrooms.  The idea was to introduce them to the test in the meeting, and encourage them to  take the tests at home and ask 3 of their relatives in their homes to take the test.  There seemed to be good buy in.

The UI, however, is a nightmare, and I'm afraid that its not an easy one to deploy without some handholding.  (I know I sound like a broken record, but this round of town halls has involved observing nearly 60 people actually taking it). Following are generalized feedback over the GCC cycle of townhalls
  • The First 2 tabs "Providers" and "Coverage" are vague to the participants - the confusion lies with whether these tabs are required fields to take the test, or are they informational to the user and they can proceed to the "Take the Test" tab
  • The response time has generally been slow (GCC uses both GTA and MCV)
  • The users wondered if they entered their address and located it on the map, if they would show up as a "dot" when they took the test.
  • On the "Take the Test tab" the user cannot enter their home address without having first visited the Provider tab, so simply directing the user to the Take the Test tab doesn't really work
  • It would be helpful if a description of DSL, Cable, Wireless, etc. were offered at the "Coverage" Tab
  • in the address field 'City" ought to be replaced with "village" - its confusing - about 25% of the attendees did not know what to answer.
  • Those who did not know their actual street addresses (about 50%) of them - PO Box is prevalent here - hoped/wished/assumed that they could click on the map a point that they identified was their home location.
  • about 20% "didn't know where to start"
  • ***This is my note - a Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 set up would greatly enhance the navigability of the test site.

With regard to overall internet experience, and feedback:

  • 10 individuals used an Internet-Only service, at a 2.0 "level" from MCV, but none of them were sure what 2.0 meant (was it a unit of measurement or did it indicate a level of service)
  • 90% used MCV - literally only 6 individuals of the cycle used GTA
  • No one complained about the speed, except for 1 individual in Yigo, whose service he characterized as "always slow"
  • 5 participants were from the South - they all reported good service (Malojloj, Yona, Agat, Santa Rita, Talofofo) **The Santa Rita and Talofofo individuals were part-time residents there.

I'm working on a emailer with a step-by-step for the speed test, but Kris, I'll hold on to it until I hear from you re: the issues above.

I will be loading photos onto the working blog shortly.

Subject: Guam Data Submission - Status Report 3/07/12

Hello All,

Attached is a status report reflecting the current progress on the upcoming data submission.

One action item on the list is for the Guam team.  I was wondering if you could review the CAI data and provide updates where possible/applicable.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you,

Kris
